Royal Mail faces a(nother) strike

This is of direct interest to me now – I have formally submitted my thesis and if Royal Mail lose it I shall beat their brains out (I don’t want to appear too terroristic – we saw what happened to Matt Boyd. Actually we saw it here).

Yes, the workers of Royal Mail are walking out. Again. What is interesting is (i) Images of Roya Mail are easy to come by, so every story seems to have a different one, but more importantly (ii) very little seems to have been done since the last strike. The dispute is still over the crappy 2.5% wage increase and this apparent plan to axe 40,000 people.

As I discussed in that last post about Royal Mail, they lost their monopoly early, and have been pretty soundly beaten since, losing a bundle of contracts worth, by my rough estimates…tonnes of bloody money. Hence a problem paying for the ‘modernisation’ they need, or for the payroll they used to enjoy as a state monopoly. Having taken this route, Royal Mail is cut off. That it is going to offer a poor wage deal and excise a very large piece of its workforce should probably just be taken as given. In this instance I just don’t see how the unions can secure something good – there just isn’t enough to go around, and to come close to getting what they want they’ll need to scuttle Royal Mail itself.     I TRADE QUITE A BIT AND HAVE USED ROYAL MAIL AS MY DELIVERY SERVICE.OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO SEND ALL MY ITEMS RECORDED DELIVERY OTHERWISE THEY GET “LOST”.THE POST OFICE MAKE CLAIMING COMPENSATION SO COMPLICATED IT IS NOT WORTH THE EFFORT. PEOPLE AT THE POST OFFICE COUNTER SEEM UNSYMPATHETIC AND BELIEVE THER RESPONSIBILITY ENDS WHEN HANDING OVER A CLAIM FORM.SO NOW MY ITEMS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE AND PEOPLE QUESTION THE POSTAL CHARGES.THIS WEEK HAS BEEN THE LAST STRAW WHEN I PAID £20.00 FOR AN ITEM TO BE DELIVERED GUARANTEED SPECIAL DELIVERY THE NEXT DAY.OF COURSE IT DID NOT APPEAR IN THE TIME STATED AND I LOST THE SALE.NO WONDER PEOPLE ARE SWITCHING FROM THIS FACELESS POSTAL GIANT WHO SEEMS TO CARE NOT ABOUT THE SERVICE OR COMMUNICATION THEY PROVIDE.CONTACT WITH THEIR CUSTOMER CARE IS A NEVER ENDING PRESSNG ON YOUR KEYPAD TO ACCES CHOSEN OPTIONS.A THROUGHLYBAD SHOW!!!.
